how to melt candle wax without a hot plate?

so my candle making kit just showed up finally but i dont have a hot plate read somewhere that using a stovetop aint the safest way to melt wax so im wondering if i can use a microwave or somethin else instead? the kit has a melting pot but idk if thats enough.. anyone got ideas?

Does your kit have a metal pouring pitcher? If it has, you can put your wax in it, then put that in a pot with a bit of water. Start with low-medium heat.
It's best if you use the pot only for this purpose, not for food.

Yep, you can totally use a microwave in a pinch, just make sure you're doing short bursts like 30 seconds at a time and stirring in between so it doesn't overheat or flash. The melting pot you've got probably works best with a double boiler setup though, like put it inside a regular pot with a bit of water on the stovetop, its way safer and more controlled than direct heat. I've done both, but the double boiler feels way more chill, just make sure not to leave it unattended

A double boiler is also a great alternative. Place a heatproof bowl with the wax inside a pot of simmering water to melt it, and with that you'll reduce the rick of overheating.

It depends on the material. If it's metal then absolutely no way or else you'd end up with a burning microwave. Not even stainless steel. But if it's silicone or a microwave-safe plastic, why not?

I agree with @meenyminymoe. I've tried the double boiler method a couple of times, it's even becoming my preference! The gentler heating is good for melting wax safely and smoothly! It takes a bit longer but it's worth the extra time!
