Candle fragrance too strong

Bought candles and vine letters for my new apartment and most of the candles smell like perfume after 5 mins. I'm not sure if it's the wax or the oils. Is it worth switching to beeswax or soy or are there vendors with more subtle scents?

Beeswax or soy might be the way to go, they burn cleaner and smell chill. Not sure where you're located but brands like Healing Culture or Vancouver Candle Co. got scents that don't punch you in the nose. hope this helps!

I still haven't done a scented candle myself, so I was wondering, how do you dose the fragrance? Any specific ratio or you're eyeballing it?

I scent all my votives and container candles at 15% of fragrance to amount of wax. That is a little on the heavy side but they burn well and I love a candle that throws a nice large scent.
