question about parafin

ive recently taken on candlemaking and im loving it but i have a question that is scaring me a little bit. is parafin wax toxic? I've read so many different opinions and answers and i kinda got lost. im worried not because of my health but mostly for my little muchkins health.

if in doubt, you can try either beeswax or soy wax theyre both non toxic and very reputable.

When I first got into candle making, I had the same concern and I did some research on it, parafin wax can release some stuff like toluene or benzene when it burns, but it's usually in really tiny amounts, like you'd have to burn a ton of them in a small space with zero ventilation to really be exposed. That said, but if youre still weary and you've got kiddos around and wanna play it extra safe, soy or beeswax are awesome alternatives just like @badc0mpany22 mentoned

here's the deal. It's not the safest things in the world, but if you use high quality wax it's pretty safe. In addition to that, use it in a well ventilated areas so any potential risk is as minimized as possible

@lilycollins I heard it can release harmful chemicals when burned. I recommend other kinds that are better for health

Glad you're enjoying candle-making! @LastNightOnEarth is right. Paraffin can release chemicals when burned but typical use is often considered low-risk. Though I totally understand the safety concern because of your little ones! For extra safety, I second @badc0mpany22 and consider using soy, coconut or beeswax. I also agree with @meenyminymoe, good ventilation is key no matter what wax you choose!

It's not entirely toxic but it could be, although the risk is very low like @jaqxxx mentioned. But if you're worried, just avoid it. I recall in police stuff they do paraffin testing. I'm sure they won't do that literally on the hand for gunpowder residue if it's bad.

Cool, sounds like a plan! Low risk, but switching to natural waxes and keeping the air moving is a solid idea
