Has anyone tried painting wax melts?

Was over at my friend's house the other day and she was playing around with wax melts and then she came up with an idea to paint them but I especcially wasnt so sure how that'd go. But can you actually pain them ? like, is it possible to use some kind of paint or coloring on the surface after they've set to add designs or details?

I'm wondering if it would stick, if it affects the scent, or if it might cause any issues when melting them later. Has anyone tried this or have any tips?

I've seen countless painted candles, so I know it's possible, but not sure how. I saw a video of a person painting candles and using acrylic paint, but the person also said that this paint is toxic when burning, so it's only for decorative candles. He did mention there are safe colors for painting, but didn't mention which ones.

it's possible, just use mica powder or a wax safe liquid dye. These are specifically designed to be melted and won't release any weird chemicals or fumes when they get hot.
You can either dust the mica powder on top of the finished melt with a small brush for a pearlescent look, or you can mix a little of the liquid dye with a small amount of melted wax and use a toothpick or small brush to paint on details

Painting wax melts is mostly a gimmick, any paint will likely flake, ruin the scent, or create hazards when melting. Stick to coloring during pouring; surface paint just invites disappointment

@LastNightOnEarth is right, mica powder works great for that shimmer effect without messing with the melt. @chatterboxkate if you just want designs for fun, that's probably the safest way without risking weird fumes.
